Guess the species! (Hint: They’re both moths, and they both have pink pigment!) These are my absolute favorite bug species, but especially the one that looks like she’s wearing bell bottoms!
After meticulously organizing about 900-1,000 photo references I collected from iNaturalist in a span of two days (and organizing every single colored pencil by number), I have started drawing bugs into the wee hours of the morning. Down the line i hope to offer collectibles/printed items stickers and posters of this collection.
It was therapeutic to make art for myself again after working on commissions so aggressively lately. I worked on two of those as well yesterday, but they’ll get posted later. I am planning an illustrated series of insects (mostly moths for now), semi/aquatic critters, amphibians, and weasels, rodents, fungi, and a few of my other mammalian favorites.
My partner has a background in and passion for environmental science and preservation, and has been a huge influence in me taking more interest in these subjects and shifting the direction of my personal artwork. I hope y’all like animals other than dogs because you’re about to start seeing a lot more of them in my work.
Like my dog illustrations, it is strongly driven by my passion for science, biology/anatomy, and exactness. (Hence my intense focus on representing correct conformation-bred dogs!)
I talk about and study medical research, conformation, animal/human behavior, and everything dog a lot in my personal life, so it is only natural that my self-expression via fine art is an extension of that.
